Looking to apply for a new credit card this month? Here’s our list of cards that are offering signup bonuses or special deals we think are good for travelers and some reasons why we like them. Canadians, we’ve even included one for you!
1. Chase Sapphire Preferred
If you’ve never had the Chase Sapphire Preferred card before, now is a good time to take advantage of a limited time offer that pays out a sign up bonus of 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points. Plus you can add an additional user to your card and get a bonus 5,000 points. That’s 55,000 Ultimate Rewards that can be used many different ways for valuable travel.
2. Chase Freedom
For a limited time you’ll get a $150 rebate when you spend your first $500 in 3 months on the always-annual-free-free Chase Freedom. When paired with a Chase Sapphire, cash back earned on this card can be turned into Ultimate Rewards points. This card earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in rotating bonus categories each quarter, and as an added bonus until the end of the year, you can earn 10x back on purchases from Amazon and several other online merchants.
3. Hilton HHonors card from American Express
The Hilton HHonors card from our partner American Express is hot this month because it’s another limited time offer (we never know how long these will last), and you’ll get 40,000 Hilton HHonors points when you spend $750 in 3 months. That’s enough points to stay at some top hotels. Plus, if you already have status in another hotel program, Hilton HHonors is offering a status match through January 11.
4. Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card (U.S.)
The Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card issued by Bank of America offers a 25,000 mile sign up bonus—enough points for an economy return trip anywhere Alaska flies in the continental U.S. and Canada, and a great starting bonus to accumulate miles to fly with one of their 14 international airline partners like Emirates, Cathay Pacific, KLM and Air France to name a few. The highest sign up bonus is usually offered through the Alaska Airlines website in the ticket check out process: 25,000 miles plus a 100$ statement credit after spending $1000 in 3 months.
5. Alaska Airlines World Elite MasterCard (Canada)
The Alaska Airlines World Elite MasterCard from MBNA is the Canadian version of the Alaska Airlines card above, and it even offers the same great sign up bonuses that card holders of the U.S. receive–25,000 miles and an annual 99$ companion fare certificate to start! You can use the 25,000 points for a return domestic ticket anywhere Alaska flies in the continental U.S. and Canada, or towards a ticket anywhere in the world with their 14 international airline partners.
